Mary Dorman Appointed Acting Executive Director of ESSR

I am honored to serve as the Acting Executive Director of ESSR, building on my extensive experience in research and safety leadership since joining UMD in 2010. I look forward to collaborating with our dedicated ESSR team and campus community to advance our strategic priorities and foster a culture of safety, sustainability, and excellence.

Terrapin Youth Programs

Effective January 1, 2025 the Office of Risk Management will be implementing an administrative processing fee to register all Youth Programs and Camps. This adjustment is necessary to continue to provide UMD with the highest quality service.

Climate Action Plan 3.0

UMD's Current Plan for reaching Net Zero Carbon

Since 2007, UMD has pursued carbon neutrality. The latest technical plan, regularly updated with input from operational leaders, marks the third major version approved by the University Sustainability Council and President Pines. The University Senate reviewed it in December 2024.

  • Comprehensive Heat Safety Measures for the Workplace

    With the days getting hotter, we must use the right controls for preventing heat-related illnesses such as heat rash, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

  • Electric micromobility vehicles in campus buildings

    In the first half of March, UMD experienced two fires inside campus buildings caused by electric micromobility vehicles. As stated in a Fall 2023 communication to campus and in other communications, electric micromobility vehicles (e-scooters, e-skateboards, electric bicycles, e-hoverboards) are not allowed inside campus buildings.

    ESSR has now launched a landing page for Entrepreneurship Safety Support! Designed for entrepreneurs, our landing page offers guidance navigating start-up formation, from completing the Facility Use Application to obtaining a Facilities Use License here at UMD.
