Biological Safety

It is the mission of Biosafety within the University of Maryland's Office of Research Safety, to ensure the protection of laboratory workers, the environment, and the community from exposure to biohazardous materials while protecting research integrity. Biosafety assists researchers in conducting risk assessments, and provides consult and training to laboratory personnel on the microbiological practices, safety equipment, and facilities that allow biohazardous materials to be safely manipulated.

Biosafety is also responsible for ensuring that laboratories on campus comply with University policies as well as all federal, state and local regulatory requirements for working with biohazardous materials
