Liability Insurance

Certificate of Insurance Request

The University may need to provide evidence that it possesses Liability Insurance. If you need to provide this evidence to a service provider, complete the Certificate of Insurance Request.

Non-University of Maryland events on campus must have liability insurance

Tenants and Users Liability Insurance Policy (TULIP) also known as Events Coverage can provide this coverage. For more information on this liability insurance requirement and on TULIP see UMD's Tenants and Users Liability Insurance Policy (TULIP)

Damage to Personal Property


Damage to personal property (tort claims)

  1. Damage to personal property is covered, but an estimate and list must be sent to the State Treasury Office.
  2. Theft is not covered under any circumstance.
  3. Individuals who wish to file a tort claim should read the Instructions for the Notice of Claim and then fill out a Notice of Claim  (available in PDF or Word).
  4. Departments are not allowed to buy their own insurance for coverage for theft (Personal or State property). Departments should take precautions to secure their property.

My personal vehicle was damaged by a State Vehicle

  1. Damage to personal property is covered, but an estimate and list must be sent to the State Treasury Office.

  3. Three estimates, photos and any police report information must be included when filing the claim
