Summer Youth Program Readiness

As our campus prepares for the many upcoming Summer Terrapin Youth Programs, ensuring the safety and well-being of all participating minors is our shared priority. Achieving 100% compliance with all program requirements is essential for a successful summer. The Department of Environmental Safety, Sustainability & Risk (ESSR) collaborates with program staff throughout the year in support of these valuable programs.

Program Requirements:
  • All Summer Youth Programs are required to register with TerpLink and complete all requirements.
  1. TerpLink and the complete list of requirements are available at the Terrapin Youth Programs website.
  2. To ensure compliance prior to the start of the Summer Youth Program, everyone participating in a program must complete their Child Protective Services (CPS)/Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance at least two weeks prior to program start. Anyone who has not successfully completed a CPS/CJIS clearance will not be permitted to participate in a Summer Youth Program.
  • ESSR offers resources and direct consultation to help you achieve full compliance. Encourage your program administrators to utilize the information available on the Terrapin Youth Programs website and to contact ESSR at youthprograms@umd.edu for assistance, or to get a link to their weekly Friday 11 a.m. “office hours.”
  • To uphold the safety and integrity of our programs, ESSR will closely monitor compliance. If 100% compliance is not achieved prior to the program start date, ESSR will contact the program leader, department leaders, and/or Deans as appropriate.
