Cold Safety in the Work Place

Cold Stress Image

As we continue with winter, we should consider hazards including slippery roads/surfaces, strong winds and cold stress. All of us at UMD can prevent illnesses, injuries, or fatalities by controlling these hazards to protect ourselves and each other when we are impacted by winter weather.

UMD ESSR developed this page using information from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Weather Service (NWS), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/NIOSH. The purpose of this page is to provide educational resources aimed at improving preparedness for and response to severe weather. It is specifically designed to help organizations like UMD prepare for winter weather and to provide information about hazards that may arise during and after winter storms.
