The Department of Environmental Safety, Sustainability & Risk (ESSR) is proud to recognize Alan Sactor, Assistant Director and Fire Marshal, on being named a Life Member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)—a distinguished honor that reflects decades of commitment to fire and life safety.
According to an official letter from the NFPA, this recognition is awarded based on “longstanding membership and outstanding commitment to fire, electrical, and life safety,” placing Alan among a select group of professionals who have demonstrated sustained dedication to advancing safety practices.
Alan has been a member of NFPA since October 1, 1982, contributing more than four decades of service to the profession. Throughout his career, he has remained actively engaged in supporting NFPA’s mission to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards impacting the quality of life.
The Life Member distinction not only recognizes Alan’s professional contributions, but also his continued commitment to safety, education, and community engagement. As noted in the NFPA recognition materials, Life Members retain full membership benefits and are honored for their lasting impact on the field.
To commemorate this milestone, Alan received a Life Member certificate, commemorative pin, and official membership card—symbols of appreciation from the global NFPA community for his years of service and leadership.

This achievement highlights the important role ESSR professionals play in promoting a culture of safety both on campus and beyond. Alan’s recognition reflects not only his individual accomplishments but also ESSR’s broader commitment to excellence in safety and risk management.
