The University of Maryland is joining campuses across the country in celebrating Lab Safety Awareness Week (February 9th-13th). We hope that all researchers will take this opportunity to engage with both their safety successes and challenges over the course of this week. ESSR is proud to be a part of your research experience and we will be sponsoring a number of new and exciting events this year.
Laboratory Safety Culture Spotlight Award
ESSR would like to shine a spotlight on researchers who are leaving a lasting, positive impact on the safety culture in their laboratories.

Supporting Safe Laboratory Facilities Award
ESSR would like to introduce a new award this year that highlights the contributions of Facilities Management employees and other facilities staff who work behind the scenes to support our research facilities.

ESSR Hazardous Waste Facility Tour
Ever wonder what happens to your hazardous waste after ESSR picks it up? Sign-up for a ~30 minute tour of this unique campus facility to see the behind-the-scenes support needed for a major research institution. Tour will be 11:30am on February 11th.
Self-Inspection Raffle
All laboratories who conduct a Self-Inspection in SciShield prior to 5pm Thursday (2/12) will be entered for a raffle prize drawing at the Lab Safety Week Safety Celebration.

Stop by our table 11:00am-1:00pm Monday, February 9th (Chemistry Building Atrium) and 10:00am-12:00pm Wednesday, February 11th (STAMP) to pick up lab safety-themed valentines and a sweet treat!
Lab Safety Week Celebration
Our closing event for the week will be a celebration of all lab safety. Enjoy free refreshments, giveaways, lab safety activities, and cheer on our award winners.
The celebration will be from 1:30 PM-3:00 PM (Awards/Raffle to be presented at 2:00pm) on February 13th in room 0201 in the Edward St. John Learning & Teaching Center.
