New Job Hazard Analysis Resource for UMD

ESSR launches a dedicated Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) webpage to help campus units identify hazards, choose controls, and document safer work practices.

Home New Job Hazard Analysis Resource for UMD

The Department of Environmental Safety, Sustainability & Risk has launched a new Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) webpage to support safer work practices across campus. The page explains what a JHA is, when it should be used, and how supervisors and employees can work together to identify hazards and select appropriate controls.

The JHA page includes a standard ESSR JHA template, video instructions for completing an analysis, and example scenarios for common campus tasks. It also highlights how JHAs connect with other safety programs such as PPE selection, Lockout/Tagout, and OSH modification projects.

Departments and units are encouraged to review the new resource and incorporate JHAs into their routine planning for higher-risk jobs and new procedures. For assistance getting started or reviewing existing JHAs, contact ESSR’s Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) group or submit a request through the AskESSR.
